DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by Sacred Wood by Kilian, a hush of creamy sandalwood settles first, smooth, enveloping, almost tactile. Soft spices glow briefly, then recede into resinous warmth and quiet incense. The composition stays close, intimate, unfolding slowly with milky woods, gentle amber, and a faint, skin-like musk. Calm but deliberate. Minimal, yet deeply felt. This is comfort with conviction. A slow exhale in a silent room. Sacred, not ceremonial.

Top: Ambrette (Musk Mallow), Carrot Seeds

Middle: Sandalwood, Milk, Amyris, Copahu Balm

Base: Atlas Cedar, Myrrh, Tolu Balsam

Maceration is the quiet part of perfumery most brands skip. It’s the period after blending, where fragrance oils and alcohol are left to rest, bond, and mature - allowing the scent to fully develop its depth, balance, and longevity.

At Larcin, every batch is macerated for 3–4 weeks before it’s ever allowed to sell. No rushing. No shortcuts. This time is essential: harsh edges soften, notes settle into each other, and the fragrance becomes what it’s meant to be on skin.

Holy Sin: Inspired by Sacred Wood by Kilian

Holy Sin is Larcin's interpretation of Sacred Wood, the Kilian Paris fragrance built to resurrect the most mythical ingredient in perfumery: true Mysore sandalwood. It follows the same creamy structure: ambrette and carrot seeds in the opening, sandalwood, milk, amyris and copahu balm through the heart, and Atlas cedar, myrrh and tolu balsam in the base. This guide covers the fragrance's remarkable origin, its meditative character, its performance and how Holy Sin compares.

The Story of Sacred Wood: Resurrecting Mysore Sandalwood

Mysore sandalwood from India is perfumery's great lost treasure: creamy, spicy and revered in temple ceremonies for millennia, it was harvested nearly to extinction and placed under strict protection, vanishing from perfumers' palettes. For Kilian's Asian Tales collection in 2014, master perfumer Calice Becker, the nose behind Dior's J'adore, set out to rebuild its scent from other materials. Her blend of a steaming milk accord, layered sandalwood, Moroccan Atlas cedar and Dominican amyris was originally intended as a mere base for future fragrances, but Kilian Hennessy loved it so much he released it untouched, as a standalone portrait of the sacred wood itself, inspired by the tale of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahabharata.

What Does Sacred Wood Smell Like?

Sacred Wood smells like sandalwood perfected: creamy, milky and quietly spicy, with a warmth that feels closer to meditation than fashion. The opening is earthy and intriguing, ambrette musk and carrot seed lending a spiced, rooty naturalness. Then the heart unfolds, a rich multi-layered sandalwood softened by a remarkably realistic steamed milk accord, with balsamic amyris and copahu adding warmth and a faint apricot-like fruitiness. Dry cedar, resinous myrrh and sweet tolu balsam carry the long drydown. The whole composition is smooth, serene and deeply comforting, sandalwood as a sacred material rather than a supporting note.

The Longevity and Projection of Sacred Wood

Sacred Wood wears close and lasts long, its milky woods humming on skin for a full day with a gentle, enveloping aura rather than a loud trail. It is famously linear, and deliberately so: a single beautiful idea, sustained for hours.

The Luxury Positioning of Sacred Wood

Sacred Wood retails around $433 for a 50ml bottle in Australia. Part of that buys Becker's genuinely masterful sandalwood accord, and part buys the Kilian name, the lacquered bottle and the romance of wearing a resurrected legend. Sandalwood soliflores rarely come more expensive, or more polished.

Holy Sin: A Faithful Sacred Wood Alternative

Holy Sin worships at the same altar. Ambrette and carrot seeds open earthy and spiced, sandalwood, milk, amyris and copahu balm form the creamy heart, and Atlas cedar, myrrh and tolu balsam complete the warm, resinous drydown. The character survives intact: serene, milky sandalwood with temple-incense depth, luxurious in the quietest possible way. If Sacred Wood is your idea of transcendence, Holy Sin delivers the experience without demanding a tithe.

When to Wear Holy Sin

Holy Sin suits autumn and winter beautifully, and its gentle nature makes it wearable year-round: quiet dinners, the office, evenings at home and any moment that calls for calm rather than volume. It is completely unisex and ideal for sandalwood lovers and anyone drawn to meditative, skin-close scents. A sample size is available on this page if you would like to experience the wood on skin first.

Most dupes use synthetic ingredients. Cheaper. Easier. But they fade fast and smell a little off.

We do three things they don’t:

Source natural ingredients from France, Grasse (same as designer brands)

Formulate at 30% concentration (most dupes are 8–12%)

Let each fragrance macerate for weeks so the scent properly settles

That’s the difference.

We’re not cutting corners.

Fair question. Two reasons.

First, we’re not a legacy luxury brand. No celebrity contracts. No flagship stores. No inflated marketing budgets. We sell direct to you.

Second, we’re not buying finished perfume and slapping a label on it. We handle the sourcing, formulation, and maceration ourselves.

Same quality decisions.

No 800% luxury markup.

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days. Delivery within Australia typically takes 2–5 business days, depending on your location. Remote areas may take slightly longer.

We offer a 30-day return window on all orders. If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it for a refund or exchange. Read More
