DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by L’Eau Papier by Diptyque, Papel opens soft and textured, like warm paper, clean musk, and pale woods pressed close to skin. There is a gentle rice-like creaminess through the heart, subtle and addictive, giving the scent a quiet intimacy. As it dries down, sesame warmth and soft musk create a delicate, lived-in trail that feels personal rather than decorative.

Top: Rice Steam Accord, White Musk

Middle: Mimosa, Sesame

Base: Blonde Woods, Soft Musk

Maceration is the quiet part of perfumery most brands skip. It’s the period after blending, where fragrance oils and alcohol are left to rest, bond, and mature - allowing the scent to fully develop its depth, balance, and longevity.

At Larcin, every batch is macerated for 3–4 weeks before it’s ever allowed to sell. No rushing. No shortcuts. This time is essential: harsh edges soften, notes settle into each other, and the fragrance becomes what it’s meant to be on skin.

Papel: Inspired by L'Eau Papier by Diptyque

Papel is Larcin's interpretation of L'Eau Papier, the Diptyque fragrance that captures something nobody thought could be bottled: the smell of ink meeting a fresh sheet of paper. It follows the same delicate structure: a rice steam accord with white musk in the opening, mimosa and sesame through the heart, and blonde woods with soft musk in the base. This guide covers the unusual concept behind it, what it smells like, how it wears and how Papel compares.

The Story of L'Eau Papier: The Scent of a Blank Page

Released in 2023, L'Eau Papier was Diptyque's tribute to paper itself, the blank page where every drawing and every idea begins, and a nod to the house's own graphic heritage. Perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin built the scent around an unexpected key ingredient: roasted sesame seed extract, chosen to evoke the smell of ink, layered over a steamed rice accord and an overdose of white musks to conjure the soft grain of paper. Grasse mimosa adds a powdery floral light. The bottle broke tradition too, carrying an abstract black and white artwork by French artist Alix Waline instead of the usual Diptyque illustration. The result became an instant favourite among lovers of quiet, skin-like fragrances and helped define the clean, minimalist scent trend of recent years.

What Does L'Eau Papier Smell Like?

L'Eau Papier smells soft, clean and strangely comforting, like a fresh notebook, warm skin and steamed rice all at once. The opening is airy white musk with that gentle, cereal-like rice accord. Mimosa lends a honeyed, powdery glow through the heart while the roasted sesame adds a subtle nutty depth, the ink on the page. Blonde woods keep the base light and dry rather than sweet. It wears like a second skin, the kind of fragrance people describe as smelling like you, only better, and it has become a signature for those who prefer understatement to statement.

The Longevity and Projection of L'Eau Papier

This is deliberately intimate perfumery. L'Eau Papier stays close to the skin with a soft musky aura, wearing for a comfortable working day without ever projecting across a room. Its quietness is the entire point: it scents your personal space and the collar of your shirt, not the lift you just left.

The Luxury Positioning of L'Eau Papier

L'Eau Papier retails around $300 for a 100ml bottle in Australia. As with all Diptyque, the price includes the concept, the artist-designed label and the prestige of the oval logo. For a fragrance built on minimalism, a substantial share of the cost is the story wrapped around it.

Papel: A Faithful L'Eau Papier Alternative

Papel recreates the page in full. A rice steam accord and white musk open the fragrance soft and clean, mimosa and sesame bring the powdery warmth and inky depth through the heart, and blonde woods with soft musk complete the skin-like drydown. The character survives intact: quiet, textural and comforting, closer to an atmosphere than a perfume. If minimalist musks are your style, Papel delivers the effect without the boutique markup.

When to Wear Papel

Papel is an everyday, everywhere fragrance: the office, study sessions, quiet weekends, travel and any setting where loud perfume would be wrong. It is completely unisex and perfect for people who want to smell clean and put together rather than perfumed. It also layers beautifully under bolder scents. A sample size is available on this page if you would like to experience it on skin first.

Most dupes use synthetic ingredients. Cheaper. Easier. But they fade fast and smell a little off.

We do three things they don’t:

Source natural ingredients from France, Grasse (same as designer brands)

Formulate at 30% concentration (most dupes are 8–12%)

Let each fragrance macerate for weeks so the scent properly settles

That’s the difference.

We’re not cutting corners.

Fair question. Two reasons.

First, we’re not a legacy luxury brand. No celebrity contracts. No flagship stores. No inflated marketing budgets. We sell direct to you.

Second, we’re not buying finished perfume and slapping a label on it. We handle the sourcing, formulation, and maceration ourselves.

Same quality decisions.

No 800% luxury markup.

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days. Delivery within Australia typically takes 2–5 business days, depending on your location. Remote areas may take slightly longer.

We offer a 30-day return window on all orders. If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it for a refund or exchange. Read More
