DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by Black Opium, Addictive opens with a rush of dark coffee and sweet spice-rich, immediate, intoxicating. White florals glow beneath the surface, soft but charged, wrapped in vanilla warmth that feels addictive rather than sweet. As it settles, the scent deepens into a smooth, ambered haze, sensual, confident, unmistakably feminine. This is nightfall on skin. Energy with temptation. The kind of allure that doesn’t ask, only pulls.

Top: Pear, Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom

Middle: Coffee, Jasmine, Bitter Almond, Licorice

Base: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cashmere Wood, Cedar

Maceration is the quiet part of perfumery most brands skip. It’s the period after blending, where fragrance oils and alcohol are left to rest, bond, and mature - allowing the scent to fully develop its depth, balance, and longevity.

At Larcin, every batch is macerated for 3–4 weeks before it’s ever allowed to sell. No rushing. No shortcuts. This time is essential: harsh edges soften, notes settle into each other, and the fragrance becomes what it’s meant to be on skin.

Addictive: Inspired by Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent

Addictive is Larcin's interpretation of Black Opium, the YSL blockbuster that put coffee into perfumery and became one of the defining women's fragrances of its generation. It follows the same floral gourmand structure: juicy pear, pink pepper and orange blossom over a heart of coffee, jasmine, bitter almond and licorice, finished with vanilla, patchouli and soft woods. This guide covers the story, the scent, the performance and how Addictive compares.

The Story of Black Opium

Yves Saint Laurent launched Black Opium in September 2014 as a rock and roll reinterpretation of its controversial 1977 classic Opium. Where the original was heavy incense and spice, Black Opium was built as its rebellious younger sister: glitter, leather jackets and city nights. Unusually, four master perfumers composed it together, with Nathalie Lorson crafting the intense coffee accord, Marie Salamagne bringing the crisp pear and pink pepper, Olivier Cresp focusing on addictiveness and Honorine Blanc weaving in the white florals. It was the first mainstream feminine fragrance to use coffee in such a high dose, and it is widely credited with launching the entire floral-coffee category that followed. Fronted first by model Edie Campbell and later by Zoe Kravitz, it became a permanent fixture among the world's best-selling perfumes and spawned a long line of flankers, including the intensely vanillic Le Parfum.

What Does Black Opium Smell Like?

The opening is a jolt: sweet pear and fizzy pink pepper brightened by orange blossom, followed almost immediately by the signature note, a rich shot of coffee that smells closer to a sweet espresso than a bitter brew. Jasmine softens the heart while bitter almond and a whisper of licorice add a dark, slightly boozy twist. The drydown is pure comfort, a warm vanilla wrapped in patchouli and cedar that lingers for hours. The overall effect is sweet, dark and energetic, the smell of getting ready for a night out with the music already playing.

The Longevity and Projection of Black Opium

Black Opium wears strong through an evening, with the coffee and vanilla trail projecting confidently in the opening hours before settling close. Its sweetness carries well in cool air and on fabric, and it is one of those fragrances people recognise instantly on a night out, for better or worse a scent that announces itself.

The Luxury Positioning of Black Opium

Black Opium retails around $130 for a 50ml bottle in Australia, designer pricing rather than niche, though the cost climbs quickly across the flanker range. The glittering black bottle and the YSL fashion house name are a real part of its pull; this is as much a beauty-counter icon as a fragrance.

Addictive: A Faithful Black Opium Alternative

Addictive recreates the full experience. Pear, pink pepper and orange blossom open the fragrance, coffee, jasmine, bitter almond and licorice drive the heart, and vanilla, patchouli, cashmere wood and cedar carry the drydown. The signature contrast survives: bright fruit and dark coffee, sweetness with an edge. If Black Opium is your night-out staple or the scent you always meant to own, Addictive delivers that energy at a price that makes wearing it on ordinary Tuesdays entirely reasonable.

When to Wear Addictive

This is an after-dark natural: nights out, dates, parties and any occasion where a sweet, confident trail belongs. It also works as a daytime pick-me-up in cooler months, when the coffee and vanilla feel like comfort rather than volume. It leans feminine and young at heart, though anyone who loves coffee gourmands can wear it. A sample size is available on this page if you would like to meet it on skin first.

Most dupes use synthetic ingredients. Cheaper. Easier. But they fade fast and smell a little off.

We do three things they don’t:

Source natural ingredients from France, Grasse (same as designer brands)

Formulate at 30% concentration (most dupes are 8–12%)

Let each fragrance macerate for weeks so the scent properly settles

That’s the difference.

We’re not cutting corners.

Fair question. Two reasons.

First, we’re not a legacy luxury brand. No celebrity contracts. No flagship stores. No inflated marketing budgets. We sell direct to you.

Second, we’re not buying finished perfume and slapping a label on it. We handle the sourcing, formulation, and maceration ourselves.

Same quality decisions.

No 800% luxury markup.

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days. Delivery within Australia typically takes 2–5 business days, depending on your location. Remote areas may take slightly longer.

We offer a 30-day return window on all orders. If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it for a refund or exchange. Read More
