DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by Do Son by Diptyque, Dorsen opens with airy tuberose and soft white florals, delicate, luminous, and quietly seductive. Orange blossom and jasmine drift through the heart, creating a creamy floral haze that feels fresh yet intimate. The dry down settles into musk and gentle amberwood, leaving a clean, feminine trail with the softness of warm skin after a breeze.
Imagine white curtains moving in coastal air, flowers left on a bedside table, sunlight fading slowly across the room.

Top: Orange Blossom, Tuberose

Middle: Jasmine, Rose, Iris

Base: Benzoin, Musk, Amberwood

Maceration is the quiet part of perfumery most brands skip. It’s the period after blending, where fragrance oils and alcohol are left to rest, bond, and mature - allowing the scent to fully develop its depth, balance, and longevity.

At Larcin, every batch is macerated for 3–4 weeks before it’s ever allowed to sell. No rushing. No shortcuts. This time is essential: harsh edges soften, notes settle into each other, and the fragrance becomes what it’s meant to be on skin.

Dorsen: Inspired by Do Son by Diptyque

Dorsen is Larcin's interpretation of Do Son, the Diptyque tuberose widely regarded as the most wearable white floral in modern perfumery. It follows the same luminous structure: orange blossom and tuberose in the opening, jasmine, rose and iris through the heart, and a soft base of benzoin, musk and amberwood. This guide covers the childhood memory behind the fragrance, what it smells like, how it performs and how Dorsen compares.

The Story of Do Son: A Memory of Vietnam

Do Son, released in 2005 and composed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, is one of perfumery's great acts of remembrance. Diptyque co-founder Yves Coueslant grew up in Haiphong in Vietnam, where his father built a small pagoda by the sea at the nearby resort of Do Son so the family could escape the heat. His mother adored the scent of tuberoses, and the fragrance recreates those flowers carried on the sea breeze of his childhood summers. Pellegrin developed the composition in close collaboration with the founders themselves, working the tuberose into something green, aquatic and sunlit rather than heavy. It has since become one of Diptyque's most beloved fragrances, celebrated with special editions, artist collaborations and a short film scored by James Blake.

What Does Do Son Smell Like?

Tuberose has a reputation for being loud, but Do Son is the elegant exception. It opens fresh and dewy, with orange blossom brightening the tuberose into something that smells like flowers on a breeze rather than a heavy bouquet in a warm room. Jasmine, rose and a powdery touch of iris round out the heart, keeping the white florals airy and clean. The base of benzoin, musk and amberwood adds a gentle warmth that hums close to the skin. The overall impression is serene, feminine and quietly luxurious, often described as the tuberose for people who thought they hated tuberose.

The Longevity and Projection of Do Son

Do Son wears as a soft floral aura, projecting gently for the first hours before settling into an intimate skin scent. The eau de parfum concentration carries a full day comfortably, with the musky drydown lingering on clothing. It is a fragrance designed to draw people close rather than announce itself, which suits its romantic character perfectly.

The Luxury Positioning of Do Son

Do Son retails around $349 for a 75ml bottle in Australia. The price reflects fine perfumery, but also the Diptyque story, the illustrated bottle and the romance of the Vietnam memory the house has built the fragrance around. Few perfumes sell a narrative as beautifully, and the narrative is very much part of the product.

Dorsen: A Faithful Do Son Alternative

Dorsen follows the same journey from sea breeze to skin. Orange blossom and tuberose open the fragrance with that fresh, dewy lift, jasmine, rose and iris keep the heart luminous and polished, and benzoin, musk and amberwood settle into the same soft, enveloping finish. The character carries over faithfully: a white floral that feels like linen and ocean air rather than a hothouse. If Do Son has been your quiet obsession at the Diptyque counter, Dorsen is that experience without the ceremony.

When to Wear Dorsen

Dorsen shines in spring and summer, on warm evenings, at weddings, brunches and by the water, anywhere its breezy florals can bloom. It leans feminine but sits beautifully on anyone who enjoys fresh white flowers. In cooler months it becomes a gentle reminder of warmer days, lovely for lifting a grey Melbourne morning. A sample size is available on this page if you would like to try it on skin first.

Most dupes use synthetic ingredients. Cheaper. Easier. But they fade fast and smell a little off.

We do three things they don’t:

Source natural ingredients from France, Grasse (same as designer brands)

Formulate at 30% concentration (most dupes are 8–12%)

Let each fragrance macerate for weeks so the scent properly settles

That’s the difference.

We’re not cutting corners.

Fair question. Two reasons.

First, we’re not a legacy luxury brand. No celebrity contracts. No flagship stores. No inflated marketing budgets. We sell direct to you.

Second, we’re not buying finished perfume and slapping a label on it. We handle the sourcing, formulation, and maceration ourselves.

Same quality decisions.

No 800% luxury markup.

Orders are processed within 1–3 business days. Delivery within Australia typically takes 2–5 business days, depending on your location. Remote areas may take slightly longer.

We offer a 30-day return window on all orders. If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it for a refund or exchange. Read More
